In an era where synergy drives success, KLINGER South Africa’s latest acquisition signifies more than just a business move. It is a fusion of shared visions, aspirations, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

In an ambitious move to reshape the future of energy conservation, the KLINGER Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of the renowned Intertherm company in South Africa, effective from January 1st, 2024. With a rich history since 1997, Intertherm has stood out as a dedicated supplier of thermal and acoustic insulation services pivotal to the energy sector – and a long-term partner of KLINGER South Africa.

Intertherm is being integrated into KLINGER South Africa, as will the offices.

Pioneering energy solutions

Intertherm, with its strong foothold in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape, amplifies KLINGER South Africa’s expansive network across the southernmost country in Africa. This acquisition promises to make cutting-edge thermal and acoustic insulation solutions more accessible to a wider customer base.

KLINGER South Africa’s bold vision, aspiring to grow the Service division (Engineered Solutions), finds a fitting ally in Intertherm’s specialized offerings.

"This isn't just about numbers. We're integrating a wealth of experience, innovation, and unparalleled expertise.”

Phillip Herbst, Managing Director of KLINGER South Africa.

From legacy to vision

While Leonard Phelps, the founding pillar of Intertherm, steps into retirement, his son Matthew Phelps steps up, ensuring that the legacy continues. As the newly appointed Business Unit Manager Thermal Insulation at KLINGER South Africa, he is poised to drive the combined entity to new heights. In his words, "We’re on the brink of an insulation revolution." Intertherm has carved a niche with its capabilities, especially in thermal insulation, catering to temperatures from -212°C to a phenomenal 1600°C. Their acoustic solutions and state-of-the-art fabricated cladding techniques, not to mention their prowess in specialized scaffolding, make them an industry frontrunner.

“Joining forces with KLINGER South Africa means our combined strength will lead innovation in every project.”

"This is uncharted territory for us, but with Intertherm’s expertise, we are confident in delivering unparalleled service in South Africa."

Christoph Klinger-Lohr, CEO of KLINGER Group, is looking forward to breaking new ground with Intertherm.

Fact Box

Intertherm, now part of KLINGER South Africa, boasts an array of specialized services that set them apart in the industry.

  • Thermal Insulation: A core competency of Intertherm revolves around its thermal insulation services. These services, especially crucial for plants, mines, and factories, are designed to effectively control heat loss or gain. The goal is simple yet pivotal: to counteract energy costs in environments where temperatures can oscillate between extremes of -212°C and a staggering 1600°C.
  • Acoustic Insulation: Noise pollution can be a daunting challenge in industrial setups. Intertherm prides itself on manufacturing and installing sound hoods and panels that effectively dampen noise, bringing it down to legally acceptable levels. This is not just about compliance but ensuring a conducive work environment.
  • Fabricated Cladding: With fully equipped sheet metal workshops and a team of adept staff, Intertherm supplies a wide array of cladding solutions made to specification. Whether it's straight rolled muffs, lobster type bends, segmented domes, vessel cladding, or transformation pieces.
  • Scaffolding: Intertherm not only supplies but also erects specialized scaffolding tailored for insulation and a myriad of other applications. Their scaffolding solutions range from simple setups to more complex arrangements, accommodating projects of varying durations.

As Intertherm products seamlessly blend into the KLINGER South Africa brand, customers can anticipate a synergized offering that magnifies value, quality, and innovation.

Championing project excellence

The synergy between KLINGER South Africa and Intertherm is evident in the magnitude of projects they have undertaken. A testament to this collaboration is Intertherm’s recent involvement in landmark projects with notable companies like:

  • PG Bison – Pulp & Paper industry, hot insulation of a drying plant
  • PMC (Palabora Mining Company) – Mining industry, supplying hot insulation for the baghouse and ducting
  • Energy Partners – Industrial refrigeration, supplying cold insulation for vessels and piping.

These ventures, ranging from the hot insulation of drying plants to cold insulation vessels, signify not just the scope of work, but the expertise and dedication they bring. The expanded network ensures that quality insulation solutions are just within arm's reach for customers across the nation. This also means rapid response times, efficient project execution, and a localized understanding of diverse client needs.

An exciting road ahead

Both companies share a common ethos: sustainable growth. The projects they undertake aren't just about insulation but about energy conservation, about ensuring that businesses operate efficiently while conserving the environment. Hence, the acquisition of Intertherm by KLINGER South Africa isn't just a business move; it is a statement of intent. It signifies a commitment to lead, innovate, and set new benchmarks in the energy conservation industry. As these two giants come together, one can only expect groundbreaking solutions that will shape the future of the industry.
