2024 marked an extraordinary milestone for KLINGER South Africa as the company celebrates its 60th anniversary – a diamond jubilee symbolizing six decades of brilliance, resilience, and innovation.
Just like a diamond forged under intense pressure, the South African KLINGER company has emerged stronger and more radiant, reflecting the durability and value that define both its journey and the industries we serve as a group. The journey over the past 60 years has been marked by perseverance through economic and social challenges, as well as an unwavering commitment to delivering superior products and services.
The story began in 1926 when KLINGER first entered the South African market through a partnership with the National Trading Company, which was appointed as the sole distributor. For 38 years, they worked tirelessly to meet the needs of an evolving industrial landscape. In 1964, recognizing the growing demand for gasket sheets, KLINGER South Africa established its first local manufacturing facility in Brakpan, Johannesburg, under the name of Richard Klinger Inc. This move laid the foundation for operations in the region and marked the beginning of an era of growth and expansion.
Over the years, the KLINGER Group has expanded its geographic footprint, product range and capabilities through strategic acquisitions and joint ventures, including in South Africa:
1996: Joint Venture signed with the National Trading Company
1996: Acquisition of Turner & Newall, renowned for gaskets, engineering plastics, and gland packing.
1999: Acquisition of National Trading Company which led to the foundation of KLINGER South Africa as it is today.
2003: Establishment of KLINGER Mzansi, embracing South Africa's black empowerment initiatives to ensure greater participation of historically disadvantaged communities in the industry.
2010: Acquisition of Wright Seal & Plastics, extending KLINGER South Africa’s reach to Cape Town.
2013: Acquisition of the BAARS Group, introducing valves and instrumentation, and opening in Port Elizabeth.
2019: Acquisition of Thomas Pipe Products, now offering comprehensive pipe product solutions to the market.
2024: Acquisition of Intertherm, adding thermal insulation to KLINGER South Africa’s product portfolio.
